Hi Carlota,
How are you? I haven't written for ages because i've had exams, but i've finished exams now.

It was great to hear that you are coming to Banyoles to practise your Catalan. I know you've never been to Catalonia before. There are some things you might fins confusing! Have you ever had a conversation with a catalan person? Catalan has some different vocabulary. What do you think 'petit', 'bonic', and 'estic be' mean? The answer is 'small', 'pretty', and 'fine' (and they're just a few examples!) I'll teach you more when you arrive. You will also notice that the catalan people say thanks a lot.

Anyway, who is comming with you? Everybody fromj the school exchange to Edinburgh las year wants to meet you, so text me when you arrive.

Give my love to your family,

Take car,

Berta xx

FORMAL EMAIL

Dear Editor, I’m writing in response to an article I came across yesterday’s edition of your newspaper. I was disappointed to read comments stating that foreign language classes should not be compulsory in secondary schools. As a student of Spanish who is about to do my school leaving exams, I would like to point out the benefits of learning a language. Firstly, there is an advantage of communicating in a one language when you are travelling. Languages can also help your career. When you are searching for a job, you are more likely to get an interview if you list another language on your application form. Next, languages learning is not only allows us to communicate, but also improves our abilities in another areas. Finally, languages are essential in promoting unterstanding between cultures. Kind regards, Berta Crous

HIGH HAIR

Would you like to style your hair this way? This is the world's highehst hairstyle, and it was created by hairdressers in Australia. They used human and syntheric hair, plus decorative elements to make a braided tower.  It has held the world record since 2009!

MAYPOLE DANCING IN MAY

This pagan tradition began in villages in England and Wales in 1350, but in the 1700s the Church banned maypoles. Today, the tradition is celebrated on 1 May. Dancers hold coloured ribbons as they dance around a tree trunk. Today, it's not a pagan festival, but it's food fun!
